I’ve had an inkling to build a guards van of late, I decided a few days ago to begin construction, but unsure as to where to start I began by heating up a bit of steel round bar until it was glowing and bashing it with a hammer until it formed a rudimentary brake handle, this was then welded to a bit of threaded bar and then in turn put into a shaft made from 25mm box section steel.
Once I’d done that I decided it was time to come up with the bit that would act upon the brake rigging to turn rotational motion into linear motion, I did this by welding a nut onto the top of a bit of 20mm box section, this slotted perfectly into the 25mm, so it was quite handy I had some laying about.
this was the first job I’d done on the railway for some time and it was nice to get back into the swing of things, One could say it was a nice Brake.
Time to move onto the chassis.
