Brick of the Week

here in this picture is a lovely example of a Ferens and Love fire brick, found in the restoration of a some friends fireplace (the picture was taken in front of their Christmas tree ((which interestingly is actually stood in a lister L engine block)) in their kitchen) I was sat having a cup of *decapitated tea when Richard pops into the kitchen and passes me this wonderful brick. at which point Francis took a photo of it and viola here we are.

the Ferens and Love Brickworks was found to my knowledge around Cornsay Colliery in county durham where the fire clay was mined along with a lot of coal.

If anyone has anymore information on this please let us know as we have a keen interest in all manner of things including brickworks and the types of bricks they made.

*decapitated is an amusing way of saying decaffeinated
